Pest Control Guide - Fleas in Indiana, Kentucky, & Illinois
There are a variety of other pests that can enter your home and be a nuisance and health threat to your family. The following insects are not common invaders, but are still considered nuisances and health threats when found in the home:

- There are numerous species of fleas but most are about 1/8" in length.
- Most common species are of flea the cat flea and the dog flea.
- Female fleas must have a blood host before they are able to lay eggs.
- Fleas are reddish in appearance and very flat. This is so they can maneuver through animal hairs. They are outstanding jumpers and jump from animal to people very easily.
- Fleas transmit numerous diseases and were the transmitters of Bubonic Plague that wiped out � of the Earths Population in the 1500's.
- There are several species of fleas but treatments is generally the same.
- Identifying where the fleas are coming from is critical as it could be a wild animal or rodent that is finding its way into the home.
- For flea control all animals must be removed from home. All aquariums must be turned off and covered.
- Vacuuming should be done prior to the treatment. The bag should be emptied and discarded.
- All possible items should be removed from closets and floors.
- A residual insecticide and insect growth regulator will be applied to all carpeted areas and upholstery.
- A ULV treatment can also be performed to provide quicker control of adult fleas.
- After the treatment increased vacuuming will help cause fleas to emerge from the pupae state.
